TDOG - Trumbull Dog Park

The Online Home for Trumbull CT Dog Owners

To all Trumbull Dog Park visitors,

An unfortunate incident occured yesterday at the dog park. The dog "Ruby" became very aggressive towards Silvia's golden pekinese and other dogs. Helen, Ruby's owner, was not able to control her dog. Helen was asked several times to leave the dog park by myself and Silvia; she refused. Silvia called the police, however, unfortunately did not wait for the police and our Animal Control Officer to arrive.  Silvia, please call Lynne DellaBianca, Trumbull's Animal Control Officer, at 203-452-5088, so she may complete her report. It is very important.

Effective immediately Helen and her dog "Ruby" are prohibited from Trumbull's Dog Park.

TDOG recently redistributed the Rules for Trumbull Dog Park.  PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW THESE RULES. These rules include:

*  Unaltered and aggressive dogs are prohibited from the park at all times.
* Immediately leash your dog if it exhibits aggressive behavior and leave the dog park area. If a dog is bullying, mounting, or scaring visitors or other dogs, ask the owner to remove the dog from the park.

Please note that Trumbull Dog Park is a self-policing community dog park. All owners are responsible for maintaining a safe and friendly environment for all to enjoy. If you have a concern, please address it directly with the dog owner. If you are asked to remove your dog from the dog park, please immediately leash your dog and leave the park. If the owner refuses, then you must remove your dog to avoid any conflict regardless of whose dog is the aggressor.  Concerns and questions should be emailed to support@trumbulldogpark.com. PLEASE provide as much information as possible including owner's names, dog's name(s), dog(s) breed(s), email/phone number and your question or concern. All will be read and will receive a response from TDOG.

Trumbull Dog Park is enjoyed by so many residents and their canine buddies. I've witnessed the "after work" group arrive and the dog park filled with as many as 20 or more dogs all running as playing - and without incident. It warms my heart every time and I'm reminded why we have such a wonderful dog park.

Dear Louise,

I bring my dog to the Trumbull dog park just about every day.  I think unfortunatley, Ruby is being made an example of.  Maybe she is a little fiesty, but in all seriousness, there are MANY dogs that go to the park that are much more aggresive than Ruby is.  Honestly, she is one of the sweetest dogs we've met there!  With all due respect to you, maybe you should come visit the park more often and get to see more of the interaction.

joanne:

this incident was discussed by the entire board of directors of TDOG, and, as such, should have been signed to reflect that.  this decision was not made lightly, and was not made on the basis of residency.  again, any aggressive behavior should be addressed immediately by the owner, and if they are asked to leave, they should do so immediately.  unfortunately, that was not the case in this situation.  we are a self-policing park, and more importantly, everyone should use common sense when it comes to the ways their dogs can behave on any different day!  this decision was not made by louise alone, rather the entire board of directors discussed this at great length.  please don't think ruby was made out to be a poster dog in this situation.  any dog exhibiting any aggressive behavior should be removed from the park immediately.  as mentioned in other blog posts, we are a self-policing group, and anyone has the right, and the responsibility to ask an owner to remove their dog if it is acting aggressively.  the issue was more the owner refusing to leave, thereby exacerbating an already bad situation.  we agree with you, ruby is normally a 'good' dog, but even good dogs have bad days, and need to be brought home.  TDOG Board of Directors.

Like i said in my last comment, there are several dogs who exhibit the same behavior as ruby. Everyone has their own opinion i guess.
